Aldia Kangas, 97

Aldia F. “Ellie” (Barnes) Kangas, 97, of Bourne, formerly of Wareham, died at home on July 22. She was the widow of the late Edward J. Kangas.

She was born in Brockton to the late Earl and Aldia (Derragon) Barnes. She lived in Wareham for most of her life before moving to Bourne 20 years ago.

She was a charter member of 25 years of the Degree of Pocahontas Council in Wareham. She was also a longtime volunteer and board member of the Wareham Council on Aging and continued as a senior outreach worker. She was also a board member of the Old Colony Elderly Services. She was a friend to all who knew her. She worked tirelessly to help others.

Survivors include her son, John E. Kangas and his wife Anna of Pocasset; a brother, Paul Barnes of Brockton; five grandchildren, Alan Oldfield and his wife, Lisa, Crystal Oldfield Dube and her husband Michael of Sandwich, Kenneth Davis and his wife Lisa of Harwich, Ed Kangas and his wife Marie and Michael Kangas and his wife Amy all of Sandwich; 10 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Jerilyn Davis.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway. Burial will be in Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
