Alfred Gouveia, 84, of Wareham, died Jan. 24 at home. He was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Quintal) Gouveia.

He was born in New Bedford and lived in Wareham for 45 years. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran serving in the Korean War.

Mr. Gouveia worked as a ship builder for Cape Cod Shipbuilders in Wareham for many years before retiring.

Survivors include his son, Alfred M. Gouveia of West Wareham; two step daughters, Alison B. Thrasher, of East Bridgewater, and Shirley Maini, of West Wareham; three step sons, Bruce Stover, of Florida, Matthew Cathcart, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Charles Cathcart, of Onset; three sisters, Alice Fortuna, of New Jersey, Georgianna Amancio, of Dartmouth, and Rozalina Sabino, of Marion; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his longtime loving companion, Patricia A. Cathcart.

Visiting hours are from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
