Alice P. (Dockett) Franklin, 85
Alice P. (Dockett) Franklin, 85, of Wareham, died Thursday, February 12 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. She was the wife of Gilbert E. Franklin, Sr.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late George Jetts and Alice Dockett. She graduated from Michigan State Normal College and received her nursing degree from Cape Cod Community College. Mrs. Franklin worked for many years as a registered nurse at Tobey Hospital and eventually served as nursing director. She retired in 1990.
Mrs. Franklin was an active member Evangelical United Methodist Church in East Wareham and later joined Wesley United Methodist Church in Wareham where she served as an ordained lay speaker and organist. She volunteered and served on the Board of Directors for Community Resource Network in Wareham and was active in many other community organizations. She enjoyed puzzles, travelling with her husband, being with her family, and gardening. She also cherished the times she spent with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert E. Franklin, Sr.; her children, Paula Frye of Quincy, Gilbert E. Franklin, Jr. and his wife Pam of Marion, Karen Nixon of Cape Coral, Florida, Gordon Franklin of Marion, Gary Franklin and his wife Rhoda Perry of E. Hampton, Connecticut, Kendall Burgess and her husband Roland of Prattville, Alabama, Kristina Beckham and her husband Roger of S. Beloit, Illinois, Gregg Franklin of Ocala, Florida and Glen Franklin and his wife Robin of Shutesbury; 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She was predeceased by her sons in-law, the late Richard Frye and Raymond Nixon and her daughter in-law, the late Deborah Lopes Franklin.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20 at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 462 Main St., Wareham at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Thursday, February 19 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham from 4 to 7 p.m.
