Aloma C. (Busby) Jackson, 83

Dec 27, 2016

Aloma C. (Busby) Jackson, 83, of Wareham, died Dec. 14 in Falmouth Hospital. Aloma Callie Busby was the third child of Ghoulburne and Ottillie Busby, both émigrés from the West Indies.

The Busby household would eventually have nine children and thus a very lively home that thrived through World War II and beyond.

Aloma attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School for Girls. On the opposite side of the building was the Boys High School. It was there she met and eventually married her high school sweetheart Curtis Jackson. Soon the Jackson household would be full of children as well.

During the early 50’s Aloma managed to complete Boston Business School and prepare for her career as an Administrative Support Professional at the Hood Credit Union and Investors Diversified Services (IDS). She would eventually retire from IDS but not before she made significant contributions to her church as church secretary, YPD co-director, Missionary, and Choir member at Grant AME Church.

Encouraged and supported by her favorite Aunt, Meta Prescott, Aloma studied voice at the Boston Conservatory of Music. She further developed her extraordinary voice which was well known throughout the New England Area and beyond. Her melodious yet powerful Soprano was highlighted in many concerts and arias given by the AME church. This includes Grant AME’s Senior Choir, the conference mass choir, The Bagwell Chorale, The New England Ushers Chorus and many others. Post retirement she enjoyed her time serving and traveling with the Saints and Singers Chorus based on Cape Cod.

Surely a voice has been quieted here on Earth, only to join the choirs of Heaven…..

Aloma leaves to mourn her four children: Valina Jackson-Simon of Wareham, David Jackson of Onset; Robert Jackson of Providence, Rhode Island; Jerome Jackson of Trenton Florida; her youngest sister Geraldine (Busby) Devane and her best friend and companion of many years Mr. Jimmy Johnson.

She also leaves one Son-in- law, Evens Simon, four daughters-in- law: Karen McCluney Jackson of Ohio, Valerie Jackson of Onset, Joyce (Fulmore) Jackson of Providence Rhode Island, and Joyce (Biggs) Jackson of Trenton, Florida.

Aloma was predeceased by her husband Curtis Jackson, her eldest son, Curtis D. Jackson, her eldest sisters Edith Jeffries, and Vilma (Busby) Mitchell, a younger sister Janice and brothers Ghoulburne, Leon, Lawrence, Donald and Albert.

At last count, there were 22 grandchildren, countless nieces and nephews, a multitude of in-laws, friends, and loved ones.

Her funeral will be held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 29, in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Onset Ave. Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Burial will follow in Agawam Cemetery.
