Ambulance damaged by unsecured pipes on pick-up
A Wareham EMS ambulance was damaged after unsecured pipes flew from a pick-up truck traveling on Minot Avenue on Monday and hit the windshield of the ambulance.
Wareham Police at the scene said there were no injuries in the accident, which occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. The ambulance sustained a cracked windshield and damage to the passenger side rearview mirror.
The ambulance was transporting a patient to Tobey Hospital at the time. A second ambulance was called to the scene to pick up the patient.
Police issued a citation to the driver of the pick-up for having an unsecured load, according to emergency broadcast reports.
The town is currently short on ambulances. The EMS Department must sometimes call on other towns to complete runs when its ambulances are busy with calls.
Town Meeting voters will be asked on June 18 to authorize a lease of an ambulance for the EMS Department, which will be funded through that department's budget.
