'And Then There Were None' promises suspense, thrills
Suspense, thrills and a touch a murder are all part of the show for the Viking Theater Company’s latest performance, “And Then There Were None.”
Based on the best-selling book by Agatha Christie, the show features 10 guests who each hold a secret from their past that ultimately comes back to haunt them. The guests are invited to a remote island by a mysterious host. One by one, they are killed, keeping the audience guessing, until the surprise ending.
There will be four performances of “And There Were None” in the Wareham High School auditorium. Opening night was Dec. 1. Other performances will be held on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Tickets cost $12 for the general public. Students and seniors pay $8.
Wareham High School students choose what show the group performs each year, said Drama Director Carolyn Gomes Vieira. For this performance, Gomes Vieira said students really took the reins.
“I took a step back and the kids stepped up,” she said. “It was all them. I just made sure the pieces were in place and working.”
Junior Hannah Eddleston, who plays Wargrave in the show, was on the committee of six students that met over the summer to decide what to perform.
Eddleston said the crime story had a devilish charm.
“A murder mystery brings a lot of suspense,” said Eddleston. “We thought that would appeal to the audience.”
All together, 30 students are involved in the play, including speaking parts, direction and behind the scenes work.
New this year, Gomes Vieira said the production attracted three eighth grade students who helped design and create the show’s posters and tickets. Last year marked the first time joining drama was an option for eighth grade students.
