Applause for those who voted
To the Editor:
On Election Day morning, I stopped by Leo’s Breakfast Restaurant in Buzzard’s Bay for a spinach and cheese omelet. Leo’s is popular among local diners from both sides of the canal, including Onset. And that’s not surprising, because the food and staff are top-notch.
I asked my waitress if Bourne was also holding elections on Tuesday. She wasn't sure.
“Do you mean for a big election or just selectmen?” she inquired.
With her curiosity piqued, she asked a few other diners if Bourne was holding elections, but no one had a clue. Finally, one table confirmed that yes, the election was underway.
So, I wasn’t surprised when I entered the Onset polling station at lunchtime to find only a handful of voters casting ballots.
Some friends and neighbors of mine don't vote in local elections. When I mention even a slight hint of disapproval over this lack of civic duty, they can get quite nasty. So, I've learned to leave it alone.
Tuesday's election results are the collaborative voice of those who cared enough to visit the polls. And I support each and every victor.
