Apps and Wax
In a corner of Lindsey's restaurant on Saturday afternoon, guests could smell the clam cakes, buffalo wings, and... lavender!
Melanie Dias hosted a fundraising event for Relay For Life, inviting a representative from PartyLite to present scents and bring ordering booklets.
At least 30 to 35 percent of the sales proceeded to Relay for Life, an event that honors cancer survivors and their caregivers.
The long table that Dias set up had appetizers and an array of candles in artful holders. At the table were her mother and aunt, two cancer-survivors and the reasons why Dias herself joined Relay for Life.
Pamela Oneil and Ginny Oneil are sisters who have been a part of Relay for Life for years now. This is Pamela's fourth year participating in the event, and Ginny's first time doing it in Cape Cod having done it for many years in Connecticut.
"I'm donating my profit to Relay for Life," said PartyLite representative and cancer-survivor Barbara Davis. "I enjoy doing at least one fundraiser per month."
Davis hosts parties where she shows off PartyLite products. She says this is a good way for her to meet new people and calls it an event that "keeps on giving." Often, some who attend the parties will subsequently throw a party, and that's how the growth continues.
Karen Morelli, another host of the party, said she raised over $500 for Relay for Life at the last party that she held.
"You're not gonna get the soot that you will other candles. The wax is food grade peraffin so it liquifies and that's why it looks super pretty," said Davis. "I've been doing this for over ten years. The reason I started was because you couldn't shop online like you can now, and I fell in love with the quality of the candles."
If you'd like to buy candles to support Dias and Davis' cause to raise money for Relay for Life, they will be available online at http://www.partylite.biz/sites/barbaracandleparty. Guests will have to enter Melanie Dias at the host name at the top right corner of the page, where it says "Find Your Host."
The online event will close on April 15.
