Ara's Salon and Spa to fundraise for Haiti

Feb 19, 2010

Ara's Salon and Spa, located on Route 28 in East Wareham, will hold a Haiti Earthquake Relief Fundraising Event on Saturday, Feb. 27. The Salon will be offering $15 hair cuts and $15 chair massages with 100 percent of the proceeds going to help rebuild Haiti through the Partner's with Haiti organization.

Owner Roseann DeGrenier said that the salon and spa always tries to be community minded, and seeing the devastation of the earthquake in Haiti reminded her of visiting the country during the 1960s when she worked on the cruise ship, the S.S. Brazil.

"I remember Port-au-Prince was probably the poorest place I had seen in my life," she said.  "We always used to try and help the people there."

DeGrenier said that Partners with Haiti appealed to her because they give most of their proceeds to the people in need.  The organization has been delivering food in addition to collecting funds for the rebuilding effort.

Three stylists and one massage therapist will be working at the event, and appointments are appreciated but not necessary.

"The haircuts will cost less than half-price of normal cuts so it's a good savings for those coming in, and the money is going to the best cause we could find," said DeGrenier.
