A new proprietor, John Bastian, aims to set up shop in the auto sales and service garage at 58 Sandwich Road. 

The Select Board granted a Class 2 (used car) license to Bastian's business A1 Auto Unlimited at its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17. 

Bastian said he has run a towing company in New Bedford for five years, but it outgrew that location. He said bought the garage in Wareham to get into the auto sales and service business. 

"I did come across this building, and it seemed like a good purchase, and the town seems like a great town to be involved with," said Bastian. "I'm more than happy to become a good helper in this town and a person that you guys can go to to have service."

The Select Board pressed Bastian to make sure he would not store his cars too close to the road. The building will have one car out front and the rest in a private street to the side, said Bastian. 

The Select Board also asked whether Bastian had experience in sales and service. 

Bastian said he had grown up around automobiles his entire life and had certifications in the field. 

It's "more than a hobby — we'll call it a passion," he added.
