Barbara Hayward, 86

Barbara May (Gould) Hayward, 86, of Wareham died May 18 at Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham where she had resided for a number of years. She was born on Jan. 19, 1930 in Natick and was the younger of two children born to Ralph and Elizabeth Gould. Barbara graduated from Natick High School. She chose to be a stay-at-home mom to raise her three children. The family lived in Ashland before moving on to Hopkinton where they lived on a small farm. They relocated to Wareham and eventually settled in Marion.

Barbara was known for her sharp sense of humor and her well-intentioned stubborn streak. She had many interests including antiquing, vacationing in Maine and enjoying a day at the beach on Planting Island. She also loved her jewelry and her Imari collection. Barbara had several grandchildren as well as four great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and with other family members at summer cookouts and holiday dinners.

Barbara had the good fortune of having several loving companions throughout her life. She outlived all of them including her husbands, Wally Stockbridge father to Gail; Hilding Bohlin Jr., father to Jon and Carl; Channing Hayward and her longtime companion, Gene Berrriault. Barbara was also predeceased by her older brother, Ralph Gould of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is survived by many family members including her daughter, Gail Vieira and her partner, Al Rasmussen of Franklin, Jon Bohlin and his wife, Nancy of Carver and Carl Bohlin and his partner, Liz Davidson from Sagamore Beach. She was well loved by her grandchildren, Shawn Bohlin of Middleboro, Samantha Bohlin of Carver, Susan Rappa of Franklin and Joan Megna of Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition, Barbara had four great-grandchildren: Bethany, Joshua, Brooklyn and Madison.

Barbara was a longtime resident of Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham. Her family would like to express their abundant gratitude to the unit two staff at Forestview for the exceptional care they provided, especially her daughter-in-law, Nancy, who was with Barbara as she passed away. The Forestview staff truly treated her like family.

Services will be private. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery, Ashland.
