Barry J. Russell, 59, of Wareham, passed away April 26, in Wareham.

Barry is the father of Tamie L. Pettiford and her husband, Gary, of Delran, N.J.  Barry was born in Providence, R.I., the son of the late Julio Fernandes and Laura (Corey) Russell.

He attended Wareham Public Schools and enjoyed sharing whatever he had, be it time or a helping hand to family and friends. He loved to fix things and took pride in all his projects.

As a young man, he spent many hours with his daughter, Tamie, and was truly proud to be her father. He also loved music and to be outdoors, walking or riding his bike about Wareham and Onset, visiting family and friends along the way.

He loved to tease, joke, laugh, and smile, and was always looking forward to a party with family or friends.

Barry had a special relationship with his niece, Nadine “Cha Cha” Williamson. Barry is also the brother of  Jeanette Santos of Wareham, Martha “Janie” Alexander of Fall River, Minnie Roderick of Wareham, Diana Smedo of New Bedford, Bernadine Clay-Smith of Providence, R.I., Barbara Munson of Rancho Meiretta, Calif., Erving "Tootsie" Russell of Wareham, Joseph Ramos of Boston, Eva Fernandes of Wareham,  Roberta “Robie” Cooper of Wareham, Cathy Silva of Wareham, and Malvin Fernandes of Wareham.

Barry is the grandfather of Kennedy and Sydney Pettiford, and the brother of the late Loretta Alves, Gerald Lopes, Leroy Russell, and Gerald Fernandes. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 15, at 10 a.m. in Saint Patrick’s Church, 82 High Street, Wareham. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and to gather at the church at 9:45 a.m. Visiting hours have been omitted. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Tihonet Road, Wareham.
