Benjamin Alvin Suddard, 93

Jan 25, 2021

Benjamin Alvin Suddard passed away January 20, 2021, at the age of 93. He had asked that his obit say: “he died after a long fight with old age”.

He is survived by his daughter Jamilynn Suddard Novo, son-in-law Lawrence Novo, Daughter-in-law Lena (Magnuson) Suddard and grandchildren Kristina Suddard, Benjamin Walter Suddard and Rebecca Novo Shippey. He now lives forever in peace with his beloved wife Joan, his brother Paul and his son Benjamin Clifton.

Ben graduated from Wareham High School and entered Wentworth Institute but left to enlist in the Navy during World War II. He was assigned to damage control on a submarine tender out of New London CT. After mustering out of the Navy he returned and finished his degree in architecture at Wentworth.

In 1950 he married Joan Macduff and enjoyed 67 years of adventures with her. With his brother Paul, he owned and operated H.A. Suddard (now Wareham Ford). He was especially skilled in mechanical diagnostics. He retired from H. A. Suddard in the late 70’s and started B and B Fish with his son Benjamin Clifton. Utilizing innovative concepts B and B Fish was born from the oyster beds that had been cultivated by his family since the late 1800’s. Grandson Benjamin Walter joined the business after finishing college. He was always most proud of the three Benjamins and their work together.

He was an accomplished carpenter who enjoyed boat building as a hobby, but fishing was one of his greatest loves, always waiting for that 50-pound bass to take his hook. He loved music, played the trumpet, sang in the choir and could whistle any melody popular or classical. He had a strong faith in a kind God.

The family appreciates the many condolences. In leu of flowers please consider a donation to the Church of the Good Shepherd’s music program, P.O. Box 719, Wareham, MA 02571.

A graveside service will be held when the weather (and COVID) breaks so that his friends and family can freely celebrate a long life well-lived.

Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. To share a memory or leave a message of condolence, visit: www.ccgfuneralhome.com.
