Berkley man indicted for murder of Wareham's John Williams II

A Berkley man was indicted Tuesday on charges that he shot and killed a Wareham man in his Glen Charlie Road home this February.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced that a Grand Jury returned a murder and firearms-related indictments against John Wittey, 70, of Berkley.

On Feb. 9, Wareham Police found the victim, John E. Williams II, 70, deceased inside the home.

According to police, Williams was discovered in a pool of blood with obvious wounds to his body.

Following an investigation, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Williams’ death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot and stab wounds.

Wittey is accused of traveling from Berkley to Williams’ home on Glen Charlie Road in Wareham. There, he is alleged to have shot and stabbed Williams multiple times while inside the house.

In addition to the murder indictment, Wittey was also indicted for two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, one count of unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device/weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition without an FID card. Wittey is currently being held without bail and will be arraigned in Brockton Superior Court at a later date.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Janezic and was investigated by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Wareham Police.
