Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks mentors
Wareham kids are in need of mentors as Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of Child & Family Services puts the call out for more volunteers.
The organization is looking for people to become “bigs” in the program, which pairs positive role models with kids. Its mission is to change children’s lives for the better by emphasizing strong social bonds.
Kids needing mentors are between the ages of 7 and 14 and most come from either single parent homes or live with their grandparents.
“Bigs” are asked to spend four hours per month with their “little” doing fun activities such as bowling, seeing a movie, playing mini-golf or other activity both will enjoy.
According to Big Brothers Big Sisters, a strong role model helps kids avoid risky behaviors. A positive and encouraging mentor also helps children obtain and retain educational success.
