Blues Festival organizers hope for a sunny Saturday
After torrential downpours marred one of the most lauded Onset Blues Festival lineups last summer, organizers were at a crossroads with what to do this year.
Once organizers gave it some thought, however, they figured, why not just try it again?
“It was a great show that nobody saw,” said Bill Lockwood, head organizer for the 23rd annual Onset Blues Festival.
“The performers thought it was a good idea, and we thought it was a good idea so we did it,” he said. “This is our raindate for last year.”
Headlining the concert, which is set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 1 from noon to 8:30 p.m. at the Onset Bandshell, will once again be the Chicago-based Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials.
Lil’ Ed and his band are scheduled to play a 90-minute set to end the show.
Festivities kick off with Lloyd Thayer playing guitar in Dudley Brown Square at 10 a.m., before the festival proper begins at the bandshell at noon.
A full lineup and schedule can be found at onsetbluesfestival.com. Advance tickets are still available for $25, and tickets at the gate are $30. For more information call 508-295-7072.
Most importantly, for anyone coming to Onset Saturday, leave the umbrella at home.
“We’re gonna have good sunshine, good music, and we’re gonna have a good time,” Lockwood said.
