BMW girls squeak by with a tie

The Bourne-Mashpee-Wareham girls ice hockey team narrowly avoided a loss to Dennis-Yarmouth on Saturday, January 28.

BMW freshman Kate Albretson scored a goal with two seconds left in the game, earning the team a 3-3 tie against host D-Y at Tony Kent Arena in Dennis.

The tie against D-Y's varsity squad on what was the Dolphins’ Senior Night was a special one for the BMW girls -- the Dolphins won 10-3 when the two teams met earlier in the season.

The BMW girls found themselves down 2-0 at the end of the first period. Anna Richard, on an assist from Tess MacDonald, netted the first goal for BMW early in the second period to cut the deficit to one.

BMW goalie Ariel St. Germaine and the defensive lines of Natalia Gordon, Emily Humfryes, Brittney St. Germaine, and Shayna Santiago held the Dolphins scoreless through the second period to keep BMW in the hunt.

Albretson tied the game in the third period off an assist from Humfryes. It took the Dolphins almost the entire period to regain the lead, scoring with less than two minutes to play, making the score 3-2 before Albretson's buzzer-beater forced the stalemate.

The BMW girls head to Hingham on Friday, February 3, for a 4 p.m. game against the Harbormen.
