The Buzzards Bay Coalition’s Onset Bay Center, Mass Audubon, and the Wareham Land Trust are teaming up to offer a number of outdoor programs for the April school vacation. 

On Wednesday, April 21, search for natural wonders on Wickets Island after kayaking over. The Wickets Island Treasure Hunt will run from 10 a.m. to noon and is open to kids 8 and up.

A virtual workshop titled Community Planning 101 will share the basics of local government and how anyone can get involved. The workshop will be suitable for those ages 14 and up, and will be held online from 7 to 8 p.m. on April 21.

On Thursday, April 22, several events will allow participants to care for open space in town. The Earth Day Onset Beach Clean-up will run from 10 to 12, and will include fun activities for families. 

From 1 to 3 p.m., help remove invasive plants at Marks Cove to allow room for native plants to grow.

Great Neck Volunteer Day from 5 to 6 p.m. will be a chance for families with kids ages 10 and up to make the sanctuary better for people and wildlife. Activities may include improving trails, trash pick-ups, and installing bird boxes. 

On Friday, April 23, Adopt a Tree at the Wareham Free Library. Free White Dogwood seedlings will be distributed from 10 a.m. to noon, and will come with educational resources and planting instructions.

From 5 to 6 p.m., Meet a Scientist at Great Neck Wildlife Sanctuary. The scientist will discuss the restoration work happening at the sanctuary.

Explore Onset Bay during a Sunset Paddle from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Kayaks will be available from the Onset Bay Center for this program, which is open to families with kids ages 8 and up.

On Saturday, April 24, make sculptural works of art using invasive plants at Marks Cove from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During one hour sessions, attendees can create their own small works to take home or help build a larger sculpture that will stay on the site.

Families can learn to shellfish from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Onset Bay Center. 

All week, a “We Are Water Protectors” StoryWalk will be on display at the Agawam River.

Those who sign up for more than one event will receive a Wild For Wareham Program passport that can be used to track their events and enter to win an outdoor exploration pack filled with provisions.
