Boys and girls go 'Kukoo' in Onset Beach during school vacation week

Apr 20, 2016

Twenty-one children were on a mission on Onset Beach Tuesday afternoon: a scavenger hunt.

The Kukoo Program, sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club, organized two events preceding a fundraising event for the club. Throughout the year, the program aims to teach boys and girls about birds and animals through various environmental programs.

"We want to give them as many opportunities as possible to get a chance to go out there and learn about the environment," said Sherbie Worthen, board member of the Boys and Girls Club.

Worthen was on the beach, watching the children complete their scavenger hunt and taking pictures of their findings.

On their days off of school, the kids were able to enjoy Onset Beach for one and a half hours, touching seaweed and putting on waders.

Their objective was to fulfill a list of scavenger hunt items and take pictures along the way.

The next program is on April 20 at 1 p.m. with Andrea Couto from the University of Massachusetts Cranberry Station, who will be bringing bees to the club and talking about their role in pollinating the Cranberry Bogs.

On June 17, there will be an event to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club at the Rosebrook Marriott.
