Budget, Prop 2-1/2 articles pushed to tonight's continuation of Town Meeting
Wareham’s voters will have to wait until tonight to weigh in on a potential Proposition 2-1/2 override that could see the town use $4.5 million in additional tax money for 2015’s town budget.
With about 45 minutes left before last night’s 10 p.m. deadline, Articles 6 and 7 (which include a balanced budget and the override to supplement that budget) came up in the meeting's lottery system, but moderator Claire Smith saw it fit to postpone the discussion until night two of Town Meeting tonight.
Smith said she made the decision because it was too late for there to be a full discussion regarding the two articles, and when many disagreed, she chose to put it to a vote. That vote amongst Wareham residents saw the articles pushed back to be first on the agenda for tonight’s continuation of last night’s meeting after a vote of 172-163.
