Riding for a cause

Oct 4, 2023

Six residents were among the 390 cyclists who took on the Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride on Sunday, Oct. 1.

The ride is held annually to support the mission of the Buzzards Bay Coalition. This is the 17th annual ride, with over $265,000 raised so far.

Participants were able to choose their course length of 100, 75 or 35 miles.

Cyclists went over the Wareham River, through Onset Village, then past the Onset Bay Center and down Cranberry Highway toward the Cape Cod Canal.

The ride brought the participants past coastal farmlands, beaches, cranberry bogs and the harbors between Rhode Island and Upper Cape Cod.

Among the participants from Wareham was Mark St. Jean, co-owner of Stone Path Malt, who also helped sponsor the event.

There were also four volunteers from Wareham who helped support the cyclists.

Riders from all three courses met at the finish line in Woods Hole for a celebration.

Wareham’s top fundraiser was Jason Webster, with a total of $615 raised so far. Donations are being accepted until Sunday, Oct. 15, and can be made at savebuzzardsbay.org/ride.

The 2024 Watershed Ride will take place on Oct. 6. The event is sponsored by Demakis Family Real Estate.
