Carol A. (Straffin) Stinchfield, 79, of Wareham, died Oct. 2 at home after an illness. She was the wife of David E. Stinchfield. They were married for 59 years. She was the daughter of the late Morris and Christina (Hanson) Straffin.

She was born in Brockton. She lived throughout the world with her family during her husband’s military career including two years in Okinawa. She then settled in Bridgewater where she lived for many years before moving to Wareham in 1998.

Mrs. Stinchfield graduated from Brockton High School in 1955. She worked as a bookkeeper at Sears and Roebuck in Brockton.

She enjoyed painting, animals, gardening and cooking for her family.

Survivors include her husband, David E. Stinchfield; three sons, Douglas Stinchfield and his wife Cindy of Mansfield, Donald Stinchfield and his wife Janice of Scituate, Rhode Island and David Stinchfield of Taunton; a sister, Linda Hopkins of West Bridgewater; a brother, David Straffin of Florida; five grandchildren, Brandon, Jessica, Georgia, Alexandria and Tobias Stinchfield; many nephews and nieces.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Relatives and friends are invited.

Burial will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
