CEDA to help upgrade senior housing

Jun 21, 2010

Senior housing units at Agawam Village and Redwood Park will be getting some help with electrical upgrades from the Community Economic Development Authority (CEDA).

CEDA will allocate $100,000 of its 2010 grant money for the upgrades. The state made public housing rehabilitation an eligible expenditure for the grant money after a several-year hiatus, said CEDA Director Chris Reilly. The money will go to the Wareham Housing Authority, with CEDA supervising the contract for the work, he said.

"It's a critical need for the community," Reilly said. "We're looking to address the immediate need of upgrading the existing units."

The electrical outlets have not been replaced in decades, Reilly said. The upgrades will make the units more energy-efficient, helping residents save money on their electricity bills.

Work will likely start in the fall. Residents will not be displaced while the upgrades are occurring, Reilly said.
