Changes present in the classroom
It’s back to the books for students, teachers, and the rest of the faculty in Wareham.
“Things went extremely well at Wareham High School today,” said Principal Scott Palladino.
The Principal was happy to report that work has recently begun on the new roof at the school.
In April, voters unanimously approved the borrowing of approximately $864,000 for the repair of the school’s leaky roof, and Principal Scott Palladino said that work recently began to remove the ballast, or rocks, on the roof, and the installation should begin by early next week.
There were also some visible changes at Minot Forest Elementary School, as well.
“Students who attended Minot Forest last year were excited to see our newly painted hallways on both floors and our new color on the front of the building,” said Principal Joan Seamans.
Seamans said many of the students came to school prepared because of the Meet and Greet the PTA held last week.
“It really helped to alleviate anxiety in the student,” she said. “They were able to walk around the building, see where their classroom was, and they completed a scavenger hunt to find things in the building.”
“I visited every classroom and the students had settled in very nicely,” she added, noting that she was also looking forward to meeting the incoming pre-schoolers, who start next week.
There were also changes to the alignment of some of the schools, with all Kindergartners, first and second graders heading to Decas Elementary School. Pre-schoolers, third and fourth graders will attend Minot Forest Elementary. Kindergarten also starts next Tuesday at Decas.
Wareham Middle School Principal Dan Minkle also had positive things to say about his school’s first day.
“Wareham Middle School greeted 821 students this morning and the excitement among students and staff was palpable,” said Minkle.
Both Minkle and Palladino showed excitement surrounding the implementation of the new dual-enrollment program, which allows eighth graders to take high school-level classes at Wareham High.
“What a great start to the school year!,” exclaimed Minkle.
