Clayton Pike, 89

Nov 13, 2015

Clayton Pike, 89, of Wareham, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center at Forestview in Wareham.

He was the husband of the late Bertha (Williams) Pike. He was born in Brockton, the son of the late Stanley H. and Elsie (Massod) Pike.

Mr. Pike attended Brockton Public Schools and was a WWII Navy veteran. He was a life member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Wareham, Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club of Wareham and the Lebanon Society of Fall River. He loved to go to the Mitchell Club in Middleboro and attend the Redmen Club in Wareham in his more active years. He was member of the Parkwood Beach Association of Wareham as well. Mr. Pike worked as a printer for the Halliday Litho Graph Co. and he enjoyed being a shell fisherman. Clayton resided in Brockton and moved in 1977 to Parkwood Beach in Wareham where he lived independently until he suffered a sudden illness.

Throughout his life, he showed love for his family and friends. He was always known to wear a white shirt, and to have a treat for all the kids who came by giving them all lollipops or change that he had in his pocket. "Clay," as many knew him, always bought things in abundance when it was a good deal, apples, potatoes, or flowers. He would share his wealth, such as give all the ladies in the neighborhood flowers or even give someone the shirt of his back if they said they liked it. He had much enjoyment throughout his life. He loved to hunt, fresh water fishing, shell fishing, play cards, spending summers in Parkwood Beach – hanging out with the Parkwood Beach gang – going to his favorite clubs, cooking and eating.

He was the father of the late Sandra Allen and her late husband David, of Maryland, Sheila Pike, of Hawaii, Carol McCarthy and her husband James, Diane Darche and her husband Frank "Butch" Darche, and Audrey Pike and good friends Linda Sevene and her companion Tommy, all of Wareham. He was the brother of Lawrence Pike and his wife Milly, of Mansfield, formally of Brockton and Bridgewater, and Donald Pike and his wife Gloria, of Brockton. He was also survived by his grandchildren Kevin Grant, Jr., Adam Grant, Danielle McCarthy, Natasha Pike, Jimmy McCarthy, Lauren McCarthy, Hollie Lichty, Hilary Dean, Heather Allen, 13 great-grandchildren and many loving relatives and friends. He was loved by so many!

A memorial reception will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 12 p.m – 4 p.m. at Salerno's Seaside Function Hall, 196 Onset Ave in Onset. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
