Community college representatives coming to Onset
Those looking to apply to one or more of several community colleges in the area will have an opportunity to do so in Onset on Aug. 8.
Financial aid and admissions office representatives from Bristol Community College, Cape Cod Community College, and Massasoit Community College will be available to provide individual assistance with applications on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Onset Foursquare Church, 301 Onset Ave.
Attendees will avoid applying late and obtain the proper financial aid to cover their college costs this fall. The event will be hosted by the Educational Opportunity Center in New Bedford.
Anyone interested in attending college is invited to attend, as well as prospective students with questions regarding any aspect of enrolling in college or questions pertaining to student loans or other financial aid issues.
The event will offer help to anyone who attends, even those who are not sure whether or not they are ready to start school in the fall. Completing the paperwork at the event will give options to those who are unsure.
"We want people to have options," said Education Opportunity Center Educational Advisor Barbara Sullivan, "so even if they're not ready to start school, they can have the paperwork ready for January."
Sullivan said it can be useful to speak to a community college representative before considering a for-profit school.
"The community colleges are very very good. They offer programs that help people become job-ready," she said.
Those wishing to complete the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) should have their Social Security Number and bring their completed 2013 federal tax form and any documents pertaining to their independent or dependent status.
No appointment or preregistration is necessary.
