Community supports Onset Fireworks at auction

More than 150 people packed Mezza Luna on Thursday night to support the Onset Bay Association’s campaign to put on the annual fireworks display, scheduled for July 6.

Kat Jones, the Executive Director of the association, said that the turnout is a testament to the strength of the community.

“We feel very well supported here,” Jones said.

The association’s goal for the night was to raise the remaining $11,000 needed for the fireworks, and the crowd came through by donating a total of $14,378. The overage will go towards next year’s fireworks, as will proceeds from t-shirt sales and donation sales on the day of the fireworks.

The live auction was led by Bob Hayes, who is beloved for his banter with guests.

“They’re very passionate, this group,” Hayes said. “They’re very giving and generous.”

The live and silent auction included art made in Onset, a Jack Daniels chest, a watch, golf lessons and jewelry, alongside smaller items like beach bags, gift cards to local businesses, and Beanie Babies.
