Contestants, donors sought for chili contest

Jan 19, 2012

Pull out mom's secret family recipe or perfect your own concoction. The second annual Chili Contest to benefit the Onset Summer of Love Music Series will be held on Saturday, February 4.

A cash prize will be awarded for the best overall chili and bragging rights will be bestowed upon the contestants with the hottest chili, best vegetarian chili, and best presentation.

The event, which is hosted by the Onset Bay Association, will be held at the Dudley L. Brown VFW in Onset from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wheels of Fire will provide musical entertainment.

The cost is $25 to enter and $5 extra if you need to use electricity.

Though there's a limit of 25 contestants, organizer Kat Jones noted: "No one will be turned away."

(Last year Jones even allowed a late-breaking entry, in the form of a contestant showing up at the VFW with their pot full of chili asking to participate!)

All of the funds raised go directly to the Onset Summer of Love Music Series, 11 weeks of family-friendly summer concerts held at the Band Shell in Onset. The concerts are free to attend, but Jones points out: "The participating bands do need to get paid!"

Jones is also accepting donations for Chinese and silent auctions to be held during the Chili Contest.
