Cop and canine catch larceny suspect
An Onset man was chased by a resident of a Tobey Road home that he was allegedly attempting to burglarize on Wednesday, October 5, only to be tracked down by a Wareham Police officer and his K-9 partner just minutes later.
Officers responded to the scene at roughly 5:30 a.m. and began searching for the suspect in a wooded area near the home. The man, later identified as 56-year-old Stephen Campbell of 447 Onset Ave., was then located in the woods by Wareham Police Officer Joseph Cardoza and his K-9 counterpart, Cago, according to police.
Cago was dispatched and Campbell received a minor wound from a dog bite. He was arrested without incident and charged with unarmed burglary, police said.
Police Chief Richard Stanley praised the performance of the responding officers, including Cago.
The officers "located a potentially dangerous suspect within a very short time period," Stanley said in a statement, "and removed yet another criminal from the streets of Wareham."
