Courtney W. DeBlois, 69, Wareham police officer, U.S. Navy veteran

Courtney W. DeBlois, 69, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Maxim) DeBlois.

Born in Waltham, the son of the late Robie V. & Carolyn W. (Myott) DeBlois, he was raised in Needham and attended Needham High School.

Mr. DeBlois served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 and then relocated to Wareham at the end of his enlistment. After his military service, Mr. DeBlois served as patrolman for the Wareham Police Department for 37 ½ years retiring in 2001. After his retirement from the police department, he was a security officer at Tobey Hospital.

Mr. DeBlois also served as a call-firefighter joining the Wareham Fire Department in 1962 and was assigned to Ladder #2 Company. He served on the Wareham Fire District Prudential Committee for 16 years and was also a member of the Wareham Lodge of Elks # 1548.

Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Nicole DeBlois of Marion; his son, Courtney V. "Chip" DeBlois and his wife Tiffany of Wareham; his grandchildren, Isabella and Gabriel DeBlois of Wareham; his sister, Carolyn Bernier of Maine; his brothers, John DeBlois of Georgia and Michael Sutherland of Wareham. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at St. Patrick's Church, High St., Wareham at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Friday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham from 4 - 8 PM.
