Cranberry Crab hopes to bring Cape Codders to Onset
There’s a new restaurant coming to Onset, and the owners are hoping to attract customers from the other side of the bridge.
Frank and Kara Macro hail from Yarmouth, and will be opening Cranberry Crab at 1 West Central Ave. The couple received its operating license from the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, and hope to open by Jan. 29.
“We came across Onset totally by accident,” said Kara.
After finding that the Fresh Food Café, which previously occupied the space, was available for sale, the couple decided the price made it worth taking a look at.
“I had never been to Onset before and was absolutely overwhelmed by how charming it was,” said Kara.
The restaurant will serve seafood, pasta dishes, and sandwiches, and will offer gluten free, as well as vegan and vegetarian menu items.
The restaurant will be open Tuesday through Saturday during the off-season, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Frank and Kara hope to be open seven days a week starting in the spring.
Frank and Kara say they have worked in every area of the restaurant business, from busing tables to managing chain restaurants, including Papa Gino’s.
“My impression was Onset was very ‘Cape Cod,’ and had many of the things we desired for our business location,” said Kara.
After doing some research, Kara says she was blown away by the number of events that Onset and Wareham have in the summer: “This pretty much sold us on the location,” she said.
Kara has been spreading the word to her friends down Cape, hoping they’ll make the drive to the little gem she and Frank found.
“We’ve been bragging about Onset," she said.
