Cranberry Highway restaurant demolished for new Taco Bell
From the Nest, to Zeadey's to BB's Bar and Grille, the building at 2424 Cranberry Highway has officially had it's last days as a sitdown restaurant.
Demolition began on the former restaurant Tuesday, Nov. 25 to make way for a Taco Bell. The new fast food location was announced in October 2025, with plans to open before 2026.
As many cars drove past, slowing down to catch a glimpse of the excavators at work, community members like Walter Andrade stood outside the fence reminiscing on old times.
Andrade, a lifelong Wareham resident, said he was no stranger to the microphone during karaoke nights held at the old Zeadey's. Many told him he was "the next Lionel Richie," when he got up in front of those crowds.
"Everybody came here back in the day," he said. "We did karaoke nights."
On his daily walks, Andrade noticed the building slowly prepare for demolition like putting up fencing and removing windows. The new building for the Taco Bell will be a 2,094 square foot restaurant that will seat up to 20 people with a drive-thru.
As insulation blew in the wind and the construction crews crunched away at the old building, Andrade remembered when the areas along Route 28 were all wooded. He said that to him, new developments are a welcomed change to West Wareham.
"They have everything over here now, before everything was in East Wareham," he said. "Sometimes you've got to change. I just didn't think it would go down this fast."
