The Wareham High School cross country team hosted a canned food drive to benefit Damien's Food Pantry, 65 Redbrook Road, Saturday afternoon at the high school track.

Colbey Santos, who is coaching the team for the first year, said the students raised 191 cans, which will go toward benefiting the needy this Thanksgiving. The students also all wore pink ribbons in support of breast cancer awareness month.

In addition to holding the fundraiser, the team also did a race with Matt Doucette finished first among the boys and Hannah Nyman finishing first among the girls. They were followed by Frank Dunphy and Darnell Andrews, and Paige Vespa respectively.

Santos said the team decided to do the canned food drive because Athletic Director Marc Loranger has encouraged the teams to get involved with the community.
