Daniel L. Smith, 47, of Onset, died Friday, June 12, 2020, unexpectedly.

Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Susan Kooperstein of Onset and Steven Mirin of Concord. Daniel graduated from Mass Bay Community College in 2010 with high honors. He earned an associate degree in general studies with a certificate in business. In 2007, he was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, International Honor Society of the Two-Year College.

Daniel worked as a landscaper in Vermont and as a short-order cook at the Yada-Yada Café in Boston. He also assisted in his family’s marketing/public relations business.  

Daniel was a creative cook. He loved music and was interested in marine biology and art. He was a talented calligrapher and enjoyed video games, movies, and making household repairs. He loved his 10-year-old nephew Ezekiel, and animals, especially his cat Cassandra. He was loved by all who knew him for his kindness, humor and gentle spirit. Daniel was always there for those who needed a helping hand.

Survivors include his mother and father; his brother, Jonathan Mirin and his wife Godeliève Richard Mirin of Shelburne Falls; his nephew, Ezekiel Mirin; his stepmother, Margaret McKenna; his aunts, Rhoda McManus of Oakdale, NY; Carol Byrnes of Hampton Bays, NY; and Lisa Mirin of Princeton, NJ; his uncle, Richard Mirin of Boca Raton, FL; and his half-brothers Benjamin Mirin of Ithaca, NY and Nicholas Mirin of New York, NY. Many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive him.

A celebration of Daniel’s life will be held at a later date.
