Dentist Steven Miller sentenced to home confinement
Wareham dentist Dr. Steven Miller, who in April pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to illegally distributing and dispensing controlled substances, was sentenced to two years of probation with the first six months in home confinement on Thursday, August 11.
Miller will have to wear a electronic monitoring device during the first six months. He must also submit to regular drug testing. He faced up to ten years in prison and a $1 million fine.
Miller was arrested in December when the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), a division of the U.S. Department of Justice, raided his High Street office. In his affidavit, Special Agent Todd Prough stated that a cooperating witness told an agent in September 2010 that Miller “was prescribing controlled substances without a valid medical purpose, namely in exchange for sexual favors, such as the feeling of breasts or buttocks.”
Miller originally pleaded "not guilty" to the charges and was released on $10,000 cash bail after a detention hearing in U.S. District Court in December.
