Dominga “Minnie” Gomes, 93
Dominga “Minnie” Gomes, 93, of Wareham, died March 23 in the Sippican Health Care Center, Marion. She was the widow of the late Antone J. Gomes, Sr. and the daughter of the late John and Mary (Charambra) Lopes.
She was born in Wareham and lived there all of her life. She graduated from Wareham High School.
Mrs. Gomes worked as an operator for Reeds Answering Service for many years before retiring.
She was a daily communicant of St. Patrick’s Church since 1953 and also served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Missionary Cenacal Apostolate.
Survivors include her son, Antone J. Gomes, Jr. and his wife Julie, of Wareham; her granddaughter, Denise Campinha and her husband Kerry, of Wareham; a brother, Frank Lopes, of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Caitana Lopes, Amelia Fortes, Mary Lopes, Margaret Slye, Albert Lopes, John Lopes, Jr., Felician Lopes, Manuel Mello and Antone Mello.
Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 31 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours are from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
