One man is facing charges after his car, which police believe was traveling more than 100 mph, crashed on Route 25, striking another vehicle Sunday evening.

Christian Brum, 26, of South Dennis, was extricated from his car after it rolled over near Exit 2 in the highway’s westbound lane.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. and involved a second vehicle.

Charles Hutchison of Mattapoisett came across the scene moments after the crash, saying Brum was trapped in the car, calling for help.

The driver of the second vehicle, a silver SUV, was pulling three dogs out of the back. Hutchison said Brum’s car was about 100 feet further up the road.

“It was quite dark and out of nowhere there appeared a big mess of smoke and debris,” he said. “I hit the brakes hard, with the ABS pulsating, from all the automotive fluid and debris on the highway.”

Hutchison’s wife then called 911 while he and another bystander went to check on Brum, whose shoes had been knocked off during the crash.

“I told him not to move: ‘You’re in shock…something may be broken…there’s nothing good for you out here, only cold pavement and broken glass,” said Hutchison. “Wait for the ambulance.”

According to state police, Brum was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution, police said.

Brum was charged with  with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and marked lanes violation.
