Emily J. Harris, 91
Emily J. (Thatcher) Harris, 91, of Wareham, died on Oct. 4, peacefully after a brief illness. Emily was born in Bourne and lived in Waterbury, Connecticut, and then in Boston where she lived and worked for 34 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles Harris; her mother Josephine “Chu Chu” Gomes; her father Sylvester Thatcher, her step father Joseph Gomes and her niece, Emily Viera.
She is survived by her sister Alice Pina of Wareham, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Emily worked as a seamstress for 34 years at Wells Manufactory and Best Coat before moving back to Wareham.
She loved Creole music and dancing, and until she became ill, she enjoyed watching New England sports and Tiger Woods, and she was learning how to knit.
Thank you to Royal Cape Cod Nursing for caring for her for the last three years, especially to Sylvia.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 at St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours are 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham, MA 02571.
