Ernest Johnson, 77

Ernest, 77, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved family. Ernest served in the U.S. Navy for eight years, from 1956 until 1964, enlisting when he was just 17 years old. Four years of duty were served at sea, on the USS Grand Canyon and the USS Mitscher Destroyer.

"Ernie" was the longtime companion of the late Carol Morse of Wareham. Survivors include his two daughters, Diane and Melissa Johnson, a stepson Michael Anzivino, stepdaughter Amy Morse. He was stepfather of the late Joan M. Anzivino.

He is survived by three sisters, Carol Murphy of Attleboro, Brenda Bowser of Raynham and Kathy Johnson of North Attleboro.

He was the son of the late Gilbert and Elsie Johnson of Mansfield.

Ernest was a proud grandfather of Brian, Amanda, Nicole and Christopher Anzivino, Eric Johnson, Kyle and Sarah Purcell, Stephanie Tate and Melody Dischler.

He leaves behind eight great grandchildren, many cousins nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial Service to be held on July 11 at the First Congressional Church, 11 Gibbs Ave. from 11 a.m. until noon.

A reception to immediately follow at the Roland Thatcher Fellowship Hall, next door, from noon until 3 p.m. to celebrate his life.

The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory will be accepted by his family. Proceeds will be used to benefit the Cancer Treatment Center.
