Family Fun Day draws a crowd at Best Friends Learning Center in Wareham
The Best Friends Learning Center on Sandwich Road held its 3rd annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, Sept. 29.
The free event was organized by learning center founder Maria LaPorta as a way to give back to the community and celebrate Wareham’s youngest residents. Last year, more than a 150 people turned out for the preschool’s festivities.
“I absolutely love doing it,” LaPorta said. “When you see how excited the kids get, you just know it’s all worth it.”
Highlights from this year’s Family Fun Day included a petting zoo and a train that took visitors for a ride around the school. Kids also had a chance to try their luck at several carnival- style games.
“Family Fun Day is our largest event,” LaPorta said. “And we try to add something different every year.”
According to LaPorta, the learning center offers free, family friendly programing in Wareham every other month. From literacy events to character visits, LaPorta says the goal is to create fun and enriching expeirences for children.
“Not every family can afford to go to the carnival or the zoo,” said Best Friends teacher K-Leigh Crippin. “So we bring the fun to them.”
