Family Mardi Gras celebration planned

Jan 26, 2010

Wareham's fifth annual family Mardi Gras celebration will be held on Sunday, Feb. 21, from 1-3 p.m. at Decas Elementary School.

Designed for pre-school- and elementary-age children and their families, the event allows children to create floats, hats and masks for a parade at the end of the celebration. There will also be limbo and hula hoop contests, all to the beat of traditional Mardi Gras music.

The parade begins at 2:30 with the children marching with their creations and catching thousands of beads.

The entrance fee will be $4 for each participating child. Adults and children bringing donations of non-perishable or baby items receive specialty beads. The donated items go to Damien’s Pantry and Baby Point. Cash proceeds from this year’s Mardi Gras celebration will go to Haitian earthquake relief  through clintonbushhattifund.org.
