Fatal hit-and-run in Wareham still under investigation

A hit-and-run that killed a Wareham man who was crossing Cranberry Highway nearly three weeks ago remains under investigation by State Police.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 3, 56-year-old Ernest Robert Raddatz was struck by a white Ford pick-up truck in the 3000 block of Cranberry Highway. According to police, the truck’s driver turned around after hitting Raddatz, leaving him in the middle of the road, and fled the scene.

Raddatz was taken to Tobey Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 9:15 p.m.

On Friday, a spokeswoman from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office issued a brief update regarding the crime.

“The incident remains under investigation by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office,” spokeswoman Beth Stone wrote in an email to Wareham Week.

It’s unknown at this time if any arrests were made or if State Police have any suspects.
