Fire officials face employee criticism
At the Wareham Fire District's meeting on Jan. 23, elected officials faced criticism for their handling of a complaint by an employee.
The employee, who only identified herself as Mikayla, addressed the Prudential Committee — the board that oversees the district — at the end of the meeting.
“I’d like to express how disappointed I am in the board for not fully resolving my complaint of a policy violation in a timely manner, and not enforcing the disciplinary action of the party involved,” she said.
Mikayla thanked board member Joyce Bacchiocchi for responding to an email she sent in relation to the matter.
“I did not hear from any other members of the board,” she said.
It is not clear what her complaint was or what steps the committee took to resolve it and neither party has agreed to comment at this time.
Board members did not respond to her statement at the meeting and moved onto scheduling their next meeting after she spoke.
Mikayla's statement appears to be related to the ongoing controversy in the fire district. The controversy, which revolves around Fire Chief John Kelley, includes several union grievances, multiple employee complaints and growing tension between staff and administrators.
