Firefighters put out blaze at Candle Paper Lane

Aug 24, 2014

Firefighters extinguished a fire Saturday evening at 14 Candle Paper Lane that injured one person and caused an estimated $150,000 in damage.

The fire, which was first reported at 4:01 p.m., was ruled accidental by the Wareham Fire Department. One woman was injured, though no further information about the extent of the injuries was available. The injuries don't appear to be life-threatening.

"It does not appear to be suspicious," said Wareham Fire Chief Robert McDuffy.

Five Wareham fire engines, including one ladder truck, were on scene, as well as three additional vehicles from the Onset, Carver, and Marion departments. Twenty firefighters were at the fire.

McDuffy said that by the time emergency personnel got to the scene, there was heavy fire coming from the two story, single family home.

“We had a handful when we landed there," said McDuffy.

Major structural damage was reported by the department, as well as smoke and water damage. McDuffy said there is still a threat of a roof collapse at the home, and that investigators have had to use caution. The home was occupied at the time of the fire.
