First Congregational Church suspends worship due to coronavirus

Mar 14, 2020

The First Congregational Church, at 5 Gibbs Avenue, has suspended worship for the next two weeks, in an effort to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

All church meetings have been cancelled until March 25, at which point, the church will reassess the situation.

Officials at the church issued a written statement, writing that “we understand that if we all work together to cut down on opportunities for the disease to spread rapidly, we’ll reduce the stress on our hospitals and save capacity for the severely ill.  And we know that, to be effective, this action needs to take place before the disease becomes widespread in our area.”

The church has urged its members to worship by watching the live streamed service from the Old South Church UCC in Boston, at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning at oldsouth.org.
