First student, second teacher contract covid-19 in Wareham Schools

Oct 22, 2020

A student at the middle school is the first in Wareham Schools to contract covid-19, the district announced on October 22.

On October 21, a Minot Forest School employee was the second staff member to contract the virus.

The first staff case was announced on Tuesday, October 20. That employee works at the high school.

On Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood said that everyone who had close contact with the person who tested positive had been been notified and was self-quarantining. A close contact is defined as someone who was within six feet of the person for at least 10 to 15 minutes.

Shaver-Hood declined to say how many close contacts the staff member at the high school had, or whether any students or staff members were among those close contacts.

Anyone who tests positive for coronavirus will not be allowed to return to the schools until he or she has tested negative and been approved for a return by the Public Health Nurse.

The Board of Health has been notified.

All cleaning and sanitizing protocols are being followed, Shaver-Hood said. The classroom or office the staff person worked in would be closed for 48 hours before being deep cleaned.
