Five new slides going up at Water Wizz

Jul 24, 2013

The biggest movie star to come out of Wareham since Geena Davis (ask your parents) is getting some work done.

Water Wizz, which is known as Cape Cod's only water park despite the fact that it sits on the opposite side of the bridge, is getting five new slides.

"There's two towers being built that will have five slides altogether," said Water Wizz Aquatics/Operations Manager Eric Brotemarkle. "Every few years, we've added an attraction."

Water Wizz has been a hot location for Hollywood films in recent years. In 2012, it was used for much of the movie "The Way Way Back," which is in theaters now. It was also featured in "Grown Ups."

The new slides should be up and running soon. Three of the slides will be "tube" slides, while two will be "free fall body slides," where "you're just in the chute," explains Brotemarkle.

"They will be open this summer," Brotemarkle said of the new slides. "I'm hopeful they'll be open in the next two weeks."

In the meantime, life goes on around the park as people jostle for spots in lines to take the plunge from the towers down the slides and into the pools. The new slides should help relieve some of the congestion in the long lines that the big water slides attract.

According to Brotemarkle, the construction time isn't so bad because the slides are actually being reconstructed.

Water Wizz employees learned of a park in Michigan that was shuttering and decided to buy the slides.

"This was real short notice," said Brotemarkle. "We were in the market for a year or two."
