Former School Committee honored for DECA Club support

The DECA Club’s school store now bears the name of the club’s founder, Dr. Cliff Sylvia.

On Wednesday, School Committee members approved the honor after Wareham High School Principal Scott Palladino brought the recommendation forth on behalf of the student body.

Sylvia stepped down from the School Committee this spring after serving for 14 years. Palladino noted that Sylvia founded the DECA Club in 1973.

Palladino described it as a “benchmark in the high school for many years.” He added that Sylvia has been a champion of the club since its founding.

Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood said she was “honored and thrilled” to give her recommendation to the name change.

The DECA Club prepares students to be leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, management, finance and hospitality.
