Friends of Onset's Budding Artists raise money for Boys & Girls Club

Sep 15, 2018

The Friends of Onset's Budding Artists held a Black & White Party at the Old Red Farm Inn to benefit the Wareham Boys & Girls Club music program on Saturday, Sept. 15, raising just under $4,000.

Organized by Linda Calise, the Friends currently oversee the Boys & Girl's Club Summer of Fun Music Program, which teaches kids how to sing, dance and even play as a part of a drum circle from July to August. The program ends with a concert at the Onset Bandshell where kids have a chance showcase their talents before friends and family.

For the last two years, the Friends have relied on grants from the United Way of New Bedford to operate. Funds provided by these grants allow the club to pay artists for their time teaching in Wareham.

“When people donate their time, it isn’t always consistent,” Calise said. “And we want to offer as full and robust a program as possible.”

According to Calise, proceeds from the Black & White party will continue to sponsor artists as well as purchase equipment for the club such as speakers and microphones.

“In the past, I’ve brought my own equipment,” she said. “But I want them to be able to practice even if I’m not there.”
