Frights, fun on Halloween night in Wareham

Wareham celebrated Halloween on Wednesday with candy, community and canines.

The Onset Foursquare Church hosted its 9th annual Trunk ‘n’ Treat event with a fleet of costumed cars in Lopes Field. On the other side of town, the Wareham Pack Walkers gathered in Wareham Crossing where dog owners took their costumed pets for a walk around the shopping center.

An alternative to going door-to-door, the church’s free Halloween party allowed children to trick-or-treat trunk-to-trunk at Lopes Field with other activities such as carnival-style games and a bounce house.

“We’re all about building people and building the community,” said Pastor Manuel Andrews. “When our kids are here, we know they’re safe.”

The fleet of cars decorated by parishioners took on a variety of themes such as Noah’s Ark and the movie “Jaws.”

Dorothy Andrews decked out her car in honor of the Dreamworks movie “Trolls.”

“It’s awesome event for the kids,” she said. “I hope it’s something we get to do every year.”

The Pack Walkers gather regularly at Wareham Crossing and other locations to walk their dogs and meet other owners. It’s a chance for people and canines to socialize, said Ted Hatch, a member.

On Wednesday, 21 members met up with their pets in tow for a special Halloween-themed walk. Elizabeth Griffith arrived with her golden retriever Comet. Griffith came as a ketchup bottle while Comet wore a hot dog outfit. Other canine costumes included a convict, Dory, from the movie “Finding Nemo,” Santa and more.

“It’s a fun way to get everyone, including our pets, celebrating Halloween,” said Hatch.
